If you’re just beginning your hunting experience, there will be some supplies that will be of great benefit to your hunting experience. Trust me, I have spent my fair share of money on hunting gear over the past several years, only to be disappointed in the results. On the other hand, I have found some gear that has proven to be worth its weight in gold, making my hunting adventures more comfortable, convenient, and successful. Therefore, in the pursuit of helping you choose the right gear, I have composed a list of the hunting gear that I find the most helpful. Even if you’re a seasoned hunter, this list is likely to have some items that you have not yet discovered. So take a look at my top recommendations, you just may find your new favorite hunting gear!
Cold Weather Outer Gear
I have tried numerous outer gear, only to end up disappointed, and more importantly, COLD! Outer gear is one of the most important supplies, because, not only is being cold a miserable experience, have you ever tried to pull an accurate shot while shivering? Trust me…NOT FUN!! Solution: These waterproof/windproof Jackets & Overalls. These are the most comfortable, warmest set of outer gear I have ever had. The pockets have a sherpa type material, and can keep your hands warm even without gloves! Warm and lightweight material is easy to move in, and won’t weigh you down! Scent blocking technology reduces or even eliminates the need for additional scent blocker! BONUS: They have lowered the prices of these TREMENDOUSLY since they first came out! Check it out! You will never want another set of outer gear!
Base Layer
Are you in a climate that you never know what the weather will be like once hunting season comes around? Me too! Actually, I never know how much the weather is going to change from the time I start hunting to the time I finish!! That’s where a good base layer comes into play. Super cold? A good base layer coupled with the outer gear I showed you in #1 has kept me warm and cozy even in the snow! Too warm for substantial outer gear, but too cool for daily clothing? Slap on your base layer under your regular close and you’re good to go! Warm up too fast in the midst of your hunt? Layering is a great way to solve this fluctuation! Base layers can be for a variety of temperatures and climates depending on your specific needs. My favorite are these for extremely cold weather. because you can get the bottoms and top at a reasonable price, while they work as good as other brands. For milder weather I usually skip the base layer pants, but prefer a moisture wicking top like these. Soft and breathable, these are good for a variety of uses too, not just hunting!
Boots
A good pair of hunting boots is absolutely essential no matter what climate you hunt! While you don’t want your feet cold, you certainly don’t want them sweaty or wet. The type of boots you choose will be largely dependent on your preference, but waterproof is a definite MUST! These are my favorite for moderate weather, or any regular basis, but if it’s extremely cold or snowy, I will break out the heavy duty ones like these. Of course, most people think camo when choosing hunting gear, but these brown ones allow more versatility to wear away from the hunting ranch! One tip I have for choosing a pair of good hunting boots is fit. I like to allow about a half size of ‘wiggle room’ to be able to wiggle my toes. This keeps blood circulation going and keeps your feet from getting cold. It also allows for extra room in case you need thicker socks like these!
Gloves
These are by far my favorite gloves for hunting! They fit snugly, so you can still utilize your fingers, which is quite necessary no matter what type of hunter you are! These gloves are durable and have lasted for many years! Features include touchscreen fingers, and grip material for increased dexterity. I do recommend, and highly suggest, no matter what type of gloves you choose, either practice shooting with the gloves on, or remove the gloves prior to making your shot. No matter how top notch your skills are, different gloves can affect accuracy tremendously! Especially if you have not practiced!
Sunglasses
Last but certainly an essential, no matter the temperature, sunglasses are an absolute must for hunting! But…I have to admit, I used to be the type of person who would purchase cheap sunglasses with the anticipation of losing or breaking them. Which, sadly, I did….ALL….THE…TIME! Until I got these awesome sunglasses! They were a gift, and at first I was thinking, “no way am I going to wear these anywhere that I could lose them, or they could fall off my head and smash onto the ground!” As soon as I put them on though, WOW!! They totally changed my mind! These are truly the best glasses I have ever worn! Clear, no glare, comfortable, doesn’t hurt behind the ears, overall the perfect sunglasses! Even if you are like I used to be with cheap sunglasses…these will change your life!
